The gnomes of Celesia are a peculiar race, seeming out of place with the world, yet being a natural part of it at the same time. It is said that they descended from a breed of fey that chose to exist more closely with the Material Plane.
Gnomes are very social race, and are unafraid to approach strangers to get to know them. They have an inventive spirit, and are naturally curious about the world and how it works, yet at the same time, they have a close connection to nature. Though they are not afraid of embarking on dangerous projects, they are at times quite reckless in how they pursue their goals. Gnomes generally believe that life experience is the best way to learn lessons, and love to use pranks to that end.
Gnomes are a short race, about three and half feet tall on average, slightly shorter than dwarves. Unlike the Stout Folk, however, gnomes are much leaner, though still quite plump. They generally have distinctively, large, round noses, and sport short bears and mustaches.
Gnomes are divided into two subraces. The Sylvanefblin are forest- and hill-dwelling gnomes, kind and mischievous folk. They makeup the majority of the gnomish peoples, and are the most widely known. The Arcanefblin are an offshoot of the Sylvanefblin race, originating from gnomes who were more obsessed with studying magics and sciences. They prefer living in cities that are expertly designed by their architects and engineers. The Terranefblin are gnomes who live deep underground in the Deep Hollows, and differ in that, while no less curious, they are suspicious of others. By living in such a hostile environment, they are generally hardier than their surface cousins.
Sylvanefblin
Society
Sylvanefblin are the gnomes with the closest connection to nature, living in forests or hills in harmony with their environment. They are also the most mischevious, and love play pranks on strangers, though the pranks are harmless and in good fun, and they use them as a means of introduction. They also enjoy riddles and witty insults, the more over-the-top and complex, the better. Despite all this, the Sylvanefblin are very friendly folk, not afraid to approach strangers and get to now them.

Arcanefblin
Society
While all gnomes enjoy studying how the world works, this group of gnomes distinguished themselves long ago for their near-obsessive drive to figure out the intricacies of the world around, develop working theories, and to conceive new creations. These gnomes came to be known as Arcanefblin, and over the millenia have changed slightly from their Sylvanefblin ancestors after all their exposure to their experiments and learnings.
Arcanefblin prefer to live cities, having an affinity for complex architecture and a structured environment. With sturdy walls around them and a roof over them, the Arcanefblin can perform their studies and experiments, and build their creations, in a stable and protected environment.
While Arcanefblin prefer structured environment, how they live is quite different. While they are able to function normally in society, many people are off-put by their slight eccentricities and ticks, developed after spending so much time sequestered in their studies or laboratories. Arcanefblin also confuse other folk by using long and technical words, as well as acting as if all the information they have learned was common knowledge to others, and are confounded when others do not understand them, even though they were completely clear!

Wars have often been fought against the Nui'anthyr and the Duerghendarr.
