Paladin

Paladins of Celesia may belong to many faiths and orders, all with their own variations of the paladin code. However, at their very core, all paladins follow and live by the Seven Virtues.

The Seven Virtues

  • Charity: The paladin is willing to give up all that she owns, even her life, in order to protect and serve others. She does not accumulate material wealth for its value, nor does she hoard it, but in order to use it to help others. The paladin places the needs of others above her own. She is even willing to give the benefit of the doubt and mercy towards the wicked, no matter how much it might revolt her to do so.
  • Chastity: The paladin refrains from being distracted and influenced by hostility, temptation or corruption. He maintains cleanliness through cultivated good health and hygiene, and by refraining from intoxicants. The paladin may pursue a relationship in a courtly and chase manner that is respectful to the other party, seeking a sincere and long-lasting love. The paladin does not seek out, nor should he enjoy, empty pleasures or quick gratification. He is honest with himself and with others, embracing moral wholesomeness and achieving purity of thought through education and betterment.
  • Diligence: The paladin is steadfast in her belief, upholding her convictions even if she is alone in the dark. She does not give up in the face of hardships. She is careful in her actions, and considers the consequences profoundly. She knows that the work to protect happiness and kindness of others is a heavy burden, but the paladin has the fortitude to work long and hard to achieve these goals.
  • Humility: The paladin is modest, and does not seek fame or the adulation of others. The paladin self-examines himself regularly. He does not boast his strengths, and acknowledges his faults. The paladin has the courage of heart to undertake tasks which are difficult, tedious or unglamorous, and to graciously accept the sacrifices involved. The paladin is respectful to others, even his worse enemies, acknowledging their strengths. The paladin is open to other ideas, even the possibility that he himself is in the wrong. He gives credit where credit is due, and does not glorify his own self. The paladin is faithful to his promises, whether big or small.
  • Kindness: The paladin practices charity, compassion and friendship for its own sake. She feels empathy and trusts without prejudice or resentment. She practices unselfish love and voluntary kindness without bias or spite. The paladin has positive outlooks and cheerful demeanor, and seeks to inspire kindness in others.
  • Patience The paladin faces challenges with forbearance and endurance with moderation. He resolves conflicts and injustices peacefully, using violence as the absolute last resort. He accepts to have the grace to forgive and show mercy to others, no matter how wicked they are. The paladin works to create a sense of peaceful stability and community rather than suffering, hostility, and antagonism.
  • Temperance: The paladin is constantly mindful of others and his surroundings. He practices self-control, abstention, moderation and deferred gratification. He is prudent when judging between actions with regard to appropriate actions at a given time. The paladin uses proper moderation when considering between self-interest, versus public-interest, and against the rights and needs of others.
